The decade-long port war is over, and the boring connector won. With USB-C now standard across phones, laptops, and accessories, the practical questions begin: what do you keep, what do you replace, and what was never going to be universal anyway.
What actually changed
Regulation pushed the last holdouts over the line, and the accessory market followed within a year. The travel kit that used to need three cables and a prayer now needs one good USB-C lead and a multi-port charger.
“One port for everything was the easy part. One cable for everything still is not.”
The catch
Identical plugs hide very different cables: charging-only, data-capable, 60W, 240W, video-capable. The port stopped being the problem and the labeling became it. Until that resolves, buying cables a tier above your needs is the only reliable strategy.
What we are doing about it
Every cable we stock is e-marked, rated on the packaging in plain numbers, and built to outlive the devices on either end — because a universal port deserves cables you never think about.
